WALLINGFORD – James M. Harkins of Wallingford, Connecticut passed away on Sep 22, 2022, surrounded by his loving family. Jim was born in Springfield, MA son of the late James and Agnes (Coupas) Harkins. He grew up in Feeding Hills and graduated from Agawam High School and Springfield Technical Community College. Jim was a member of the Army National Guard during the Vietnam War. He worked for numerous companies in Massachusetts and Connecticut as a computer programmer/IT specialist.
Jim was a member of the Meriden Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks Lodge #35, the Wallingford VFW Post 591, and the Wallingford Senior Center. He volunteered countless hours serving these organizations throughout the years, most recently running the Senior Center golf league. He was a fan of the Patriots, Red Sox, and Quinnipiac Bobcat hockey. An avid UConn Huskies fan he never missed an opportunity to tailgate. Jim had many stories about the boat that he owned with his cousins, fishing and golfing and the many friends he made along the way.
Travel was a large part of his life. He loved to explore the National Parks, visited all fifty states and numerous European and Central American countries and couldn’t name his favorite place when asked. Jim loved to cook, and every holiday and family party was planned around his love for food. He will be dearly missed for his sense of humor and larger than life laughter that filled the room and his generous heart.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 35 years, Elaine, his sister Patricia (Ira) Hare, his brother Tom (Trish) Harkins, in-laws Lorna (Dick) Thibeault, Gail (Charlie) Stegos, Ron (Margaret) Manzi, many dearly loved nieces and nephews, his aunt Josephine Johnson, cousins, and friends that felt more like family.
